The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center established in 1984 by the U.S. Department of Defense with a broad charter to address the transition of software engineering technology. Its mission is to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. The SEI is an integral component of Carnegie Mellon University and is sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. The SEI has developed a comprehensive framework of Capability Maturity Models focusing on software, systems engineering, people (developing human talent), software acquisition, and other related disciplines. Hilton Consulting's Information Technology consultants are trained in and experienced with the SEI's Capability Maturity Model for Software, and have used it successfully in assisting client organizations establish focused and sustained continuous improvement efforts in their software management and engineering processes.
